DY272 extractant
Bis(2,4,4-trimethylpentyl)phosphinic acid
CAS 83411-71-6
DY272 is a bis(2,4,4-trimethylpentyl)phosphinic acid reagent with a measured content of 93.23%, equivalent in duty to C-272. It loads cobalt from nickel-cobalt liquors so the raffinate carries the nickel, reduces the number of separation stages, and does not extract calcium. Sulphate and chloride systems are both handled, as are gallium, molybdenum, germanium and the heavy rare earths thulium, ytterbium and lutetium.
- 93.23% active content
- Cobalt-selective loading
- No calcium extraction
- Low stage count

Typical use
Nickel-cobalt separation in sulphate and chloride circuits, laterite liquors that need a lower stage count, and recovery of gallium, molybdenum and heavy rare earths.
- 01Applied where iron, aluminium and manganese have already been removed upstream.
- 02Calcium is not extracted, so gypsum-bearing liquors need less scrubbing than with acidic phosphorus reagents.
- 03Iron is re-extracted at low sulphuric acid concentration, which is used to clean the organic between campaigns.
